About the Game
The player can customise quite a lot of their character’s appearance and weapons, with such changes being a mixture of cosmetic and practical. There are three types of armour, with heavier, more durable armour offering obvious advantages, but also working against the player, slowing you down and making your movements more cumbersome.
Your character – a mercenary – can be customised quite specifically as to looks so you can spend some time on this, making him look just right for the part. Even his voice can be changed along with his body type and face, so you can get just the right appearance. This customisation costs nothing, but tweaking weapons, armour and other perks will need you to use the in-game currency, so you might need to do a little grinding to get things perfect.
You can learn all about medieval weapons, such as shields, swords, spears, hammers, bows and arrows, and even immense siege weapons that would flatten the average home today! You can occasionally use a horse in your battles, just as knights of old would have done,
Combat is achieved through careful and precise movements to parry opponents blows, feint to trick them into exposing a vulnerable part, and to attack them, breaking through their guard and drawing blood. Keep an eye on your health and stamina metres as you go, and on your opponent’s too, so you know when to strike a death blow in dramatic style.
Game Modes
There are a number of different ways to play, namely:
- Frontline: this is quite a tactical way to play. Two teams are formed and each team begins with a thousand points. For each enemy killed the opposing team loses a point: for each soldier you lose, you lose a point. You can earn points by winning battles, claiming territory and completing objectives – completing all the objectives triggers an instant win, while winning territory simply depletes enemy points. You will also win if they run out of points
- Battle Royale: in this, by now familiar, mode, play starts with sixty-four players in one arena. Everyone is naked and afraid: armourless and weaponless, needing to find a chest as fast as possible and gear up. Then it is a death match, with the play area reducing as the numbers decline. The last man standing is the overall winner
- Horde: stand firm with your teammates against wave after wave of AI enemies. Your health bar will not regenerate during each round, so be sure not to be too careless with your life, but winning the round will restore you to fitness as well as giving you currency with which you can buy armour and weaponry. As above, you begin with no weapons or armour to hand and must battle with your wits until you can suit up
- Skirmish: this a form of team play in which each player is sort of out for themselves too! If you die in the game, you will only respawn at the end of the round, continuing to play if your teammates bested the opposition. Win seven rounds and your team wins the whole skirmish
- Deathmatch: deathmatches are almost like jousts, where you challenge one player at a time to battle one-on-one. Once you have beaten them, you move onto the next: so no waves of enemies, and no overwhelming battles, just duel after duel after duel: an excellent way to find out just how good your medieval weaponry skills are. The first player to get to the requisite number of kills is the winner
- Team Deathmatch: just like the above, except players are divided into one of two teams and the whole team works to outdo the opposition’s number of kills
